Why do I support Blues
Well, in all honesty, coming from an Indian Sikh background. Growing up, most of my family either supported Liverpool or Man United and inevitably I was brain washed by my cousins from the age of 6 to support Manchester United. However, being the stereotypical “armchair fan that has never actually been to Old Trafford” and at the age of 16 was taken to my First Birmingham city FC match against Nottingham Forest in the 2001-2002 season at home. We drew 1-1 with Tommy Mooney scoring and me becoming a fan and following the Blues ever since!
My first ever game
2001-2002, Birmingham City FC vs Nottingham Forest. Match finished 1-1.
My pal Raj and I had to buy our Carling Cup Final tickets when they were on general sale. However, a friend of ours told us he would be willing to queue up and get our tickets as a favour which saved us from taking the morning off work. After work we agreed to meet our friend at our local Pub and when he arrived he gave us bad news by telling us the tickets had all sold out. We were distraught, horrified and upset by this. Our friend wasn’t able to keep a straight face and showed us the tickets. To our shock and delight we had some celebration that night.
Special Moment (Other than Carling Cup Win)
Europa league night at St Andrews against Braga drawing 2-2 and managed to secure some executive seats for the night game. The atmosphere was electric and I felt very proud of Blues for reaching the dizzy heights of European football and putting up a great fight on the night.
Best away game experience
This may sound a bit strange but my best away game experience was at Tottenham away in the 2010-2011 season. This was the last game of the season and all we needed was a win to stay up but Alex McLeish decided on putting 10 men behind the ball with Jerome up top like a lost Goat! The reason this is one of my best days was just the pure passion, desire, singing, and love for the blues in our away section. We all kept going till the death and never doubted ourselves or our lads for the full 90 minutes! It was a shame about the result; granted, but one things for sure, we never put ourselves to shame that day as supporters! I was very proud of the fight in our fans.
My Favourite Past Player
Christian ‘CHUCHO’ Benitez ….a player that loved playing for the shirt and always gave 110% every time he stepped on to the pitch. He lit up St Andrews and was a really exciting player! (May he RIP).
Lee Clarke – because ……just because!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!……he taught me how to deal with extreme adversity.
2015/2016 season away kit with the red, yellow and black. It looks retro and uber cool!
Forming the Blues 4 All supporters club! It’s been great getting to know other supporters and the wider community.
