Why do I support Blues

I was born in Birmingham and I spent my childhood living in St Andrews Road next door to the Blues ground.  I attended the local school and can even remember some of the players giving coaching sessions when  players wore long shorts!

My first ever game

I can’t remember who the opposition were at my first game but I was seven years old and went with my older brother.  We won!

We sneaked in under the turnstiles because we couldn’t afford a ticket.  I hope the club won’t charge me now they know!

Interesting stories

Former Blues defender and fans favourite Michael Magic Johnson made a surprise guest appearance at my birthday party and presented a match shirt to me.   It truly was a great night and a lovely gesture from Magic and my family.

Special Moment (Other than Carling Cup Win)

In 1968 Freddy Pickering scoring the winner against Chelsea in the 6th round of the FA CUP match. There were 61,000 in attendance which was an amazing atmosphere that I still remember.

Best away game experience

Blackpool away game in the 70’s.  Travelled with the BCFC supporters club and got to know Trevor Francis’s parents (God bless them).

My Favourite Past Player

Trevor Francis, class above everybody.

Favourite Manager

Freddy Goodwin – Such a successful time at the club!

Favourite kit

Penguin shirt, all day long! (Google it!)

Interesting Experiences

Meeting the players at the Supporters Club awards and being able to present an award.  A surreal experience and grateful to the club for giving this opportunity.
